About the NSPD

History

In mid-1996, Rev. Michaele de Cygne was walking out onto her front porch, in the Los Feliz area of Los Angeles, CA. In her hands was a newspaper article about a local lesbian teen who had (then) recently committed suicide. Being a researcher, and the Executive Director of a charitable trust, she went to research the availability of online crisis line info, and found there only a few at that time. That finding inspired her to conceive, and then to assemble the National Suicide Prevention Directory. (To date, other than hiring two people to update it in 2005, she has been single-handledly advancing this Work since its conception.)

Initially, the NSPD was presented by theMERE Project Trust, (which Rev. de Cygne had established in 1992, to advance the production, and public distribution of neuroaudio software she had developed, as well as any other charitable endeavors she chose to pursue.)

Scope

The National Suicide Prevention Directory (NSPD)
was developed to be the most comprehensive list of U. S. suicide prevention/crisis intervention centers available on the Internet. The NSPD was primarily established to be a national deterrent to Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender (LGBT) youth suicide. Since its inception, the NSPD has received tens of thousands of hits per month, which translates into it having been a significant deterrent to suicide in the United States of America during its existence, (naturally extrapolating to such prevention in the rest of the world's human population).

Public Support is Required to Update, and Upgrade the NSPD

Elvespirit sponsors the NSPD for the MERE Project Charitable Trust, and relies on the public to fund all aspects of NSPD updating. The Trust has contracted the web design consultancy, Smack Happy Design, to deliver a complete overhaul of the NSPD. (The estimated cost of the overhaul is $10,000 USD. The Trust will also require additional funds to hire2 independent consultants to call every existing therein contact, to verify them again, to make any needed changes [for Smack Happy], and to add locations that have arisen since the last update.) The Trust must rely on public support to raise those funds, hence, it has enabled you to thereto donate in order to participate in making that happen--for the entire country, all of its territories, and, expanding the International section, the entire world. Please Do!

Last Comprehensive NSPD Update: 2005

To date, according to recent reports from others who encouraged the Trust to take this step, there is still no other more comprehensive database for such resources. Certainly, watchdogs of the respective organizations have kept an eye on the NSPD, and have enabled the NSPD to accurately represent their contact info, however, the last time the NSPD was given a major overhaul was in 2005. Please hereby assist the MERE Project by enabling it to fulfill the "Smack Happy ReVision" of the NSPD. The friend, co-worker, family member, or stranger at whom you find yourself idly staring today may be planning on not being alive tomorrow--any material support you hereby provide the Trust will directly serve to enable the NSPD to help others to save countless lives; if not their own.

Required Funds
Smack Happy ReVision Budget

Web design services: $10,000 USD
Freelance consultant services, (2 persons, verifying, and updating the NSPD's raw data): $6,500
Total: $16,500

Disclosure: (January 4, 2021) The above donation button(s) constitutes a charitable solicitation thereby being made by Elvenspirit (EIN: 85-3090728), which is organized, and operated as a 501(c)(3) non-profit, tax-exempt organization. All funds hereby donated are fully tax-deductible.

How You May Otherwise Help to Upgrade the NSPD

Additionally, if you are presently aware of any relevant suicide prevention organizations in your local area that are not herein listed
, particularly those which serve to prevent the suicide of this nation's youth, irrespective of sexual, and/or gender orientation, please contact either of the below e-mail addresses with update requests:

Update Requests: nspd@nspd.one, or
nspd@nationalsuicideprevention.directory

Thank you for your help enabling the NSPD to serve the American People, and, thereby, all of the people of Earth.

* In CA, "queer" is not the hate word it is in many other parts of the country.
In most parts of the state, it's as benign as "gay", its most familiar synonym.
